The Planting Life Haiti Foundation (Plante Lavi) wants to help farmers and their families escape from living in poverty. One of the ways PLH is doing this is by introducing drip irrigation systems on farms in Haiti.
These systems use much less water than traditional flood irrigation farming methods that are used in Haiti. This is especially important in the dry season, when farmers have a difficult time watering their fields.
By working with farmers to use drip irrigation systems, farmers can use less water and labour, and enjoy better crops year round. This will give them an increased livelihood, which will help them to live out of poverty.
Currently, four fields in Désarmes are using drip irrigation. Over time, PLH would like to install and train farmers to use drip irrigation in more fields throughout the area.
