Who We Are

Our story, values, and mission

As a faith-based non-profit organization, we come together with the people of Désarmes, Haiti to help them turn the tide on poverty over their lives.

Our Story

Our story begins with Weslet Vildort, our founder, who grew up in Haiti.

Weslet

Co-Founder & Executive Director

Having grown up in Désarmes, Haiti, Weslet has first-hand knowledge of the land, people, and culture. As young as at the age of 8, he remembers working on the farms in Haiti with his dad, questioning “Why do we work so hard in the fields but cannot get enough to eat?”

Today Weslet works to accomplish Planting Life Haiti’s mission of “planting life for a sustainable future” for the people of Haiti. He uses his gifts, knowledge, and experience to lead the organization with diligence and passion.

Aileen

Co-Founder & Administrative Director

Aileen, originating from Canada, has had a heart of service for the people of Haiti since 1995, when she went to Haiti on her first short-term trip as a high school student. In 2007, Weslet and Aileen got married and so did their vision for Haiti.

Today she oversees the details involved in running Planting Life Haiti. Beyond her administrative role, Aileen uses her skills, knowledge, and experience as a teacher to provide ongoing teacher-training opportunities for teachers in Désarmes and other local areas.

With over 8 years of ministry, we have been able to grow this mission exponentially. We are honoured to come alongside people in many walks of life: farmers, educators, merchants, nurses, religious leaders, welders, carpenters, students, and many more.
